OK, I think I have an idea for the campaign I want to make for L4D.

Name: Halfway to Hell

Background Story: In the midst of the Cold War, the US had started secretly funding the construction of deep underground shelter disguised as deep earth mining facilities. Our four survivors have heard of this place and begin their journey to the possible safety of this rumored underground fortress.

Idea:
Players start amidst a small town at a localized safe house (whose survivor numbers are rapidly dwindelling). They hear these rumors and are the only ones in the group of survivors who believe the trek is worth the risk; thus, they leave via roof top to help keep the remaining survivors safe.
The players will trek through the town to the outskirts where they locate the mining shaft, a huge one at that, indicating that some large things may be stored below. Players will ride the elevator down (while being bombarded by zombies along the way. Once at the bottom, they will be surrounded by near darkness. The only lights available will be from the players and the few dim bulbs scattered along the ceilings. These are huge corridor tunnels, with skeleton-esk structures that were supposed to make more room for survivors. It's still not safe.
The players will wonder through the tunnels searching for that final hope, the rumored HQ structure built for high up officials. Once there, they discover that the door will take a long while to open, as well as attract many hords of zombies. Players will not wonder far from this area, as the entrance is the only place that will have light, everything else will be pitch black. It will be the survivors struggle to last long enough until the door can open wide enough.
. . . but who knows what awaits them inside?


What do y'all think?

Edit: I'm still thining about the different levels, but I might go something like:
1) Town
2) Quarry pit with giant elevator shaft visible in center
3) Elevator ride down (this includes turning on a generator to power the elevator, attracting horde)
4) The pitch black shaft (modeled after real world mine shafts [real easy since there are nearly right angles)
5) Final fight at the "vault" gate.

Stupid. L4D's system requirements are to high for a game that hasn't the visual aspects as crysis.
It is bullshit to make it that high.

Actually, I did.

There was a guy on the forums asking for a tut to get the L4D decompiles to work, so I went to your profile to find it and found that as well.

Mapping and changing the menu screen is one thing, but messing with models and materials changes how the game can be played. If done correctly, some players can gain an advantage in the game, such as turning every material into a glowing texture . . . makes it too easy to see zombies.

I do hope that the rumor about VAC banning people who mess with the .vpk file is true.

My theory is that Valve may be trying the new compression file to be used as a mod check, you know a "load these files first, if the file size does not match, send query to VAC," sort of load.

Mapping and changing the menu screen is one thing, but messing with models and materials changes how the game can be played.
