    SH-Stats.info - Stat Tracking
0 commentsPosted: 12 days ago
So I've been busy with some fun programing projects on the side:

http://sh-stats.info/

Collecting some of the basic stats on another site and re-working them into other things or displaying them properly in terms of the overall network traffic - doesn't exist on the official game stats oddly enough...

All of this was made possible via Bigross's thread selling webhosting space etc. Something I've been researching for a while but didn't have the means to put it into action.

    Second Industry Job
0 commentsPosted: 1 month ago
So I've went and got myself a second job alongside my existing one and my studies at Niagara College: working 4 days a week for Touchstone Building Group. Basically it's quite the change in pace from my normal stuff but I'm loving the fact I've actually got challenging work to do again rather than the same old stuff I can do while half asleep each morning.

While I don't have a particular title like most people in the office there, my tasks are basically compiling budget/tender numbers for construction jobs and making all the calls needed to get those numbers from the trades in the area. After double/triple-checking all my numbers and calculations we then write up a proposal and send it off to the clients to be approved.

After that my work on a particular job-site drops considerably as I lay the framework and then only have to periodicity check back to see what costs are like and add it into my budget templates to see what sort of profit/loss we're making.

It's been a nice break from my normal industry experience of design work/replication; now I'm becoming very intimate with the business side of construction and how to run companies well and make a profit on each job.

I still do some design work there however, not every project is one where it's a brand new building going up and we have the plans to work from, sometimes it's someone renovating a house/basement etc etc and so we need to go in and create our own detailed plans to give to the trades so we can get pricing back.

It's nice to finally get even a small estimating position during a rather difficult time here in the Niagara region.

Worked from Spanners copy and merged it with a bunch of minor changes from mine and went from there. Too lazy atm to make a nice readable post saying what was changed so heres a cut/paste change-log along with more thoughts/doodles on the image.

No image of friends-list as it's just set-up and organized, nothing completed as you would think.

2010-06-12 Logan
- Moved Spanners content into main folder, most far along in getting things together and therefore best to work from.
- Modifed and fixed up some coordinate issues that broke the interfaces look during resizing to small/larger views (Middle Bolts & edge overlays).
- Added "Public" folder containing the txt for various text localization. Modifed "_____'s Account" text to be just "My Account" to suit new placement.
- Added nav region for the circle buttons & friend icon/account info to allow for easier movement if needed
- Changed down button to open friends, moved text around over buttons - is the text nessasary? Would the drawn/marker-like text on the buttons look better form the old idea?
- > Added in a cheap placeholder to go with the other quick ones to fill the centre of the button pad. These need to still be done properly and then re-aligned to one another.
- > Shortened text size to fit better on the buttons for the meantime.
- Re-enabled scratch layer for testing, need to know what will/will not be affected by cheap details on this layer.
- > Circle Nav buttons will need their own "worn" look applied.
- Grey Border removed from interior content windows for Game pages only, once a final is acceptable it will be moved to downloads/media etc.
- > Blue border colour on images should go right to very edge of canvas now that Hex has been moved to edges.
- Removed inset code on window to fix scrollbar removal on details panel. Will find workaround later to get a nice padding around - perhaps cheat with images around instead?
- > Workaround placed in "CSteamRootDialog ListPanel" in steam.styles via padding for left/right only.
- Fixed inproper linking to hex image in SH_Images folder in the steam.styles file.
- ListPanelColumnSelectButton fixed up.
- > ListPanelDragger seems to be useless and add an extra grey line, deactivated but left old code in. Looks fine so far.
- Adding in Focus colour changes to header titles.
- Fixed up last inconsistencys between content window sizes (Game/Download/Library/Store etc) - ***If found let me know, pain in the ass to co-ordinate between several files for one thing so may have missed an odd one.
- > Scroll bar locations move, but will be fixed @ later date
- Coloured Corner images/Circle BG to match rest of interface to check blending.
- > These will need to be softened later, vector based for alpha creation then add extra for bleeding issues. See Bolt.tga for example.
- Font additions made to Header txt and List txt. Will test on XP machine later, Fonts are included in Resource/Fonts/ folder.
** - Added min-width/height command to main interface. 1150px by 595px
** - > These can be added to other windows IF required.
- Darkened base colours for other windows while starting work on friends content.
- Started changes to Friends panel. Added 50px offset on all sides for some creative room. Changes only noticable when running from /skins/ folder and changes are not instant when editing so a restart is required :(

< End of Todays Changes, need a drink >

2010-06-12 Spanner_

- Top right image repaired.

[2010/05/31] - Good God the Huma....I mean, Placeholders!

Took the suggestion from Spanner on how to re-structure the interface a bit to stay close to the wrist concept. This is about an hours worth of coding and minor tweaking of the bolt image - it was completely re-done in terms of coding within a different system to display it (Fun stuff).

*Yes, those red/blue/grey things are really on the interface - that's not photoshop heh. They're placeholders, not a mock-up image pieced together.

I wasn't able to take the time to use some of the images provided - properly anyway - as you can see by the circle nav being all the same button heh. Just needed to know size concerns.

I don't think there is much more structure-wise left to change for the main screen, next project is the friends window to make it rather minimalistic in comparison heh. No grey bits. Just a subtle hex BG with blue highlighting bars & white text, like you see in the in-game menu (on the wrist device).

That will be the start of my modifications to text colouring/styling as I need to add in the SH style fonts and make any changes to placement in the code.

And again, like the above post states, I'm throwing all this into a dropbox shared folder so anyone that wants to help replace all these new placeholders or improve upon existing things just send me a PM with your email address :D

As you said. If you get a chance to nudge Tom ask him if we can have studio leader access to WIPs again :)
It'd be nice to be able to change stuff like private and public, add stuff to descriptions and add images to the top

Yeah I wont ever NOT use those methods again. So worthwhile.
Also, when I get home I'm going to take a screenshot of a problem area I have in my map.
It's a small section that rises above the walls, and you can see it through the skybox.

To give you an idea its like the tunnel in DDust2 from Mid to the center area of tunnels, those stairs.

Judge not whom you know not.

By the way, thank you so much for the help. Because of your tutorials I cut down the compile time from 40 minutes (Last section alone), to 5 minutes (entire map).

Oh man that sounds interesting. I want to see the pictures of the map running on the diff engine. Sounds awesome.

School huh. Well, my 4th year starts at the end of Sept. and I probably have one more after, maybe two depending on whether i get my classes or not. So still going through it.

I Just got my computer back online from a fatal hdd crash. So i went from having 2 HDD to a new 1 HDD and i have 1 TB of data lost :( lol I'll figure it out later to see if i can recover it.

For now, I just got accepted into the Google AppInventor Beta and been using that fun tool :)

Know a tutorial which should be added to my "must reads" list? Let me know in the message box.

Sounds good, I posted some additions I'd like to make to the writeups in concept, nothing big just some case studies so I'll prioritise them as the schedule arrives
